Target Bows
Target bows, as the name implies, are designed for targetshooting. They are divided into three classes or styles; theEnglish long bow, the flat bow and the modern modifiedflat bow.
The English long bow is not of English origin; it wasbrought to England during the 8th and 9th centuries byraiders from Norway and Denmark. The decisive battle ofHastings was largely fought with this weapon, being used bythe troops of both William and Harold. This is the bow ofRobin Hood and his merry men. From the date of the con-quest throughout English history, the long bow was theirstandard weapon until the reign of Charles II. Of course, therewas that interval from Henry VIII to Charles II during whichfirearms and archery overlapped. When archery first started inAmerica the long bow was the type used. This style prevaileduntil after World War I.
