Hickory
In this chapter on bow woods we named only three and, perhaps, we should stick to this statement. However, we canhardly leave this subject without saying something about thetoughest wood that grows in our native forests. The EasternIndian tribes used a lot of hickory in their bows. Most of usmade bows from it when we were kids. One of our largemanufacturers specializes in hickory hunting bows.
For a target bow it is out, dead out, on my card. It does,
however, make a fair hunting bow, perhaps the best one canget if one's limit is around $15.00. It is tough, no questionabout that. It will stand all manner of abuse and cold weather. It can be reflexed.
