Archery Tackle : Page 96

When the archer goes hunting he must carry more than onearrow. The question of where to put them and how to carrythem was solved before written history. Man evolved thequiver which has not changed in principle for over five thou-sand years. Ishmael's quiver was an untanned leather bagslung on his back with the mouth even with his right shoulder.

The modern quiver is a fancy leather bag, machine stitchedwith streamline design, slung on the back with the moutheven with the right shoulder. Both Ishmael and the modernarcher filled the quiver with arrows, feathers up; both reachedthe right hand upward, grasped the arrow between thumb andforefinger and, with a forward overhand swing, drew thearrow from it. How times have changed!
