Getting lost is a state of mind caused by not being able totell where you are or how to get back to camp. If a hunter willobserve cloud and wind directions, water courses, ridges andlandmarks, he will know where he is and know how to gowhere he wants to go. Be direction conscious at all times.

If, however, a person is hunting alone when darkness over-takes him and he realizes that he is lost, it is best to stop, makehimself as comfortable as possible under the conditions andwait until daylight, unless a searching party finds him. Thesignal for help with firearms hunters is three shots from therifle. But, since bow hunters may not carry firearms, he mustdo the next best thing. There is no law against carrying awhistle. All bow hunters should carry a whistle and shouldhave a prearranged code of signals.
