formed, hold it between thumb and forefinger. Remove theother two skeins from the nails—be sure that the twist is notaltered—and see that none of them have crossed the others.Bring the three tapered points together and pull until youare satisfied the tension is the same on each skein. The secretof making a good string depends largely on this operation.The strength of the string depends on the uniformity of thetension on each strand. Measure 6 inches from the end ofthe waxed points and mark with thumb nail. Fold paper atthis mark and place in vise so that the 6 inch mark is evenwith the jaws, the same as Fig. 43 except that the points are6 inches long instead of 71/2 inches.
