19. Fit an arrow on the string and carefully square it withthe arrow plate—use a square or a card board that you knowis square. Mark the string on each side of the arrow nock;then remove the arrow. Wax a length of the No. 12 shoe-maker's thread and wind a knot at each of the marks justmade; this forms a nocking station that will assure you of aconstant nocking position. Fig. 51.
The string is completed.
If you want to make strings for bows of different lengths,measure the bows and set pin E on the numerals indicatingthese lengths and proceed as described in this chapter.
The string board has enough nails to make a 36 threadstring; if a heavier string is desired, one may cross the boardat any position from No. 12 on up. If a heavier string is tobe made, the pin at point E will have to be moved up 1/2 inchbecause more of the length of the threads is consumed intwisting a greater bulk.
