The next step is to learn how to string or brace a bow. Mostbows are now furnished with strings with an eye or loop oneach end. Some are furnished with an eye for the upper endand a reinforced lower end. If the single eyed string is notfitted to the bow, then it must be fitted. Put the loop over theupper bow nock and slide it down 4 inches below the nock.

Hold it in this position with the right hand, running thestring and the bow through the left hand until the lower nockis reached. Mark this position on the string and tie a timberhitch (Fig. 27) and then tighten it around the nock. II it is adouble looped string, first put the upper loop over the upperend of the bow and then fasten the lower loop in the lowernock of the bow. In either case the bow is now ready to bebraced.
