Grasp the bow handle with the right hand with the back ofthe bow toward you. Place the lower end of the bow againstthe hollow of the right foot. The left foot should be one stepaway and slightly forward. Place the heel of the left hand onthe upper limb slightly below the loop of the string. Now pull

backward with the right hand, keeping the right elbow closeto the body, while the heel of the left hand pushes forwardusing the thumb and fingers to place the loop in the nock.Before relaxing the tension, make sure that the string issecurely placed in the nocks of the bow. Now hold the bow infront of you and place your fist on the bow handle with thethumb pointing upward. The string should just touch the endof the thumb (Fig. 28). If the string is not high enough, un-brace the bow, take the lower loop off the nock, and twist thestring. Replace the string and brace the bow again. Repeatthis operation until the string is the proper distance from thehandle, a fistmele (61/2 inches).
