The string must not be placed in the last knuckle jointsbut on the pads of the three drawing fingers about midwaybetween the last joints and the ends of the fingers. Except forthe last joints of these fingers, no part of the hand should bebent; the fingers, hand, wrist, forearms, and arrow should bea continuous straight line. This must be remembered andpracticed until it becomes a subconscious act.

Now, with the string in this position, instead of its beingrolled to the left, it is rolled in the opposite direction. Thearrow is forced against the bow at the arrow rest instead ofbeing pried away from it. See Fig. 33. This point will have tobe mastered before good shooting can be done. It is myopinion that this is the most important act in the process ofshooting; it is my further opinion that the archer should con-centrate on this phase to the exclusion of all others until heis satisfied that he is on the way to its perfection.
