Most beginners will invariably draw the string with thebiceps of the upper arm. They never get very far until theylearn that a lot of other muscles must assist in this process.We have stated that the elbow is up so that the upper arm isat right angles to the body; when in this position, the power-ful muscles of the shoulder are brought into play, also thoseof the upper back. The left arm is pushing with the leftshoulder bearing the load while the right side of the body is
pulling. The chest, the shoulders and the back actually puton a stretching act. As one becomes more and more pro-ficient, all these muscles act in unison with subconscious tim-ing; one forgets about bow weight and can concentrate onaiming and holding.
