See Fig. 34. If the arrow did not have a trajectory, it wouldfly over the target the above stated distances at the indicatedtargets. But the arrow does have a trajectory. The average

40 lb. target bow usually has a point blank aim at 80 yards.In other words, if the archer sighted over the pile and heldit on the target at that distance, he would hit the target. Atdistances greater than 80 yards he would have to hold onsome object above the target and, at distances less than 80yards, he would have to hold on some object under the targetwhich would be located between him and the target. Thisobject on which the archer aims or holds is called the pointof aim. See Fig. 35.
