A captain is elected or chosen for the day. The captain ischosen because of his knowledge of the ground, his experi-ence as a hunter, his ability to handle men and his horse sense. The captain is vested with authority and his orders must beobeyed. The next day a captain is chosen again; it may be thesame man who served the day before, or it may be anotherperson. But, whoever is captain, his word is law. It will bedecided how many of the participants will be "watchers" andhow many will be "drivers." Lots are usually drawn to deter-mine who may watch and who must drive. Or, it may be thatsome members, by reason of age, health or physical handi-caps, will be voted or appointed as watchers. After all detailsare agreed on and all members know their positions and theirduties, they retire.
