The arrow head was fitted in the slot of the foreshaft andheld in position with pine pitch after which it was lashed withsinew. See Fig. 53.
Arrow heads of stone are fragile; they will break if theystrike any solid object. They have, however, amazing pene-trating power. Scientific tests have shown that they will pen-etrate deeper in animal tissue than the best steel broadheads.The reason for this penetration is said to be that these headshave serrated edges. A knife with a serrated edge will cutbread better than one that is razor sharp. The Indian couldand did shoot entirely through the bodies of big game in-cluding buffalo.
